  • On the 17th of October, Rumah Kita performed at the Wonderful Indonesia event held at Qatar Foundation - organised and invited by the Indonesian Embassy.

The night saw a spectacular series of traditional dances, musical performances, martial arts performances and fashion shows by Indonesian communities across Qatar. Representing Al-Khor Community, Rumah Kita showcased three traditional dances: the Saman dance, Jaipong dance and Bamboo dance.

The Saman group was last to perform and was introduced by the MC of the show as "a dance not to be missed and worth waiting for". The group assembled a fresh line consisting of many new members who performed (very confidently) for the first time at an event outside of Al-Khor Community. As usual the girls executed beautiful, synchronized hand work.

The Jaipong dance, a neo-traditional dance of the Sundanese people of Indonesia was performed by Febrariska, Miranti, Ema, Fitrie and Tia. Jaipong fuses the village dance ketuk tilu with Indonesian martial arts, pencak silat and you can only imagine the fun, urban edge this gives the dance.

The Bamboo dance originates from the Papua region and portrays a hunt. It contains lots of grunting, shouting and action and so is exciting and unpredictable to witness. The audience of the night in particular were in for a treat as the boys finished off their performance with a loud and impressionable outcry by Bima.
Not to be left out, Rumah Kita adviser Farida Sidharta also played a part in performing the Angklung with the Qat-Indo Ladies Angklung group. The Angklung is an Indonesian musical instrument made out of bamboo sticks, with each stick carved to have a particular pitch when struck. The group played three different pieces, all played to perfection.
